Ask anyone, male or female, if they've seen the 2004 film The Notebook and they will probably say they have. Follow that up by asking if they cried during it and they'll probably say "yes," (because if they say "no" they are lying!) Nick Cassavetes' adaptation became one of the most iconic love stories of the 21st century, but it began as a best-selling Nicholas Sparks novel that was one of the first romance stories to tug at my heart strings. Not to mention it also helped launch the career of Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling, so for that we are also forever in debt to the master of love, Nicholas Sparks. I was incredibly happy to be able to tell him "thank you" in person when he stopped into our CW23 studio for an interview to discuss his newest film, The Choice.
The Choice film is based on Sparks' novel of the same title that was published in 2007. Similar to The Notebook it follows two star-crossed lovers, Gabby (Teresa Palmer) and Travis (Benjamin Walker), two neighbors in a small coastal town of North Carolina who don't quite see eye-to-eye at first. Throughout the film their bond is tested by several life-changing events, and I won't spoil the rest! If you need any more reason to check it out CW fans, it has some appearances from Tom Welling (Smallville) as a beefy doctor. Check it out in theaters 2/5!
Nicholas also talks about his inspirations for his novels, his role in casting for his movies and the high bar he sets for his leading men, which Jon has trouble living up to.
The Choice opens in theaters on Feb. 5.
