As I walked into the room at Mall of America there was only one person sitting in the interview chair and I recognized him right away. Kevin Hart's face was buried in his phone and he was laughing uncontrollably at something. I didn't want to interrupt so I sat in silence and patiently waited while listening to a laugh I've heard a thousand times in some of my favorite comedies and stand-up specials. After a while he looked up and asked "have you ever watched DJ Khaled on Snapchat?" That was it. No hello or introductions needed. He walked over and played me his Snapchat feed fore a few minutes until a booming voice came from over our shoulders to say "stop bugging her with your stupid videos!" It was Ice Cube. I must admit it was one of the most casual first encounters I've ever had before an interview and I slowly began to realize that the laid-back friendship between these two actors wasn't too far off from their on screen characters.
Ride Along 2 reunites the "Brothers-in-Law," James Payton and Ben Barber, about a year after the first movie leaves off. Although Hart's character may have proven himself worthy of James' sister the last time around, he still has some learning to do in terms of his police work. However, as usual James is reluctant to teach him. This time the duo visits Miami to gain intel on a drug ring case in some questionable ways and the hilarity ensues from there. Expect to see many familiar faces throughout the film including Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn, Tika Sumpter, Ken Jeong, Sherri Shepard, and Glen Powell.
During our chat, Cube & Hart raved about the filming location, their character development, the crazy action sequences including car chases and explosions, and my personal favorite fake bachelor party scene. Enjoy the ride in theaters January 15th!
